MG Big Band Plays Eraser Description

This project came about after I went to watch my good friends Eraser Description play a gig at a casino. Consisting of two keyboards and drums they play high energy funky grooves and deep beats. They are also complete virtuosos who do things on their instruments mere mortals can only dream of…

As I listened to their set I kept imagining how their music could be arranged for big band, and a few months later I began writing an arrangement of one of their charts. From there we booked a gig through COMA (Creative Original Music Adelaide) to perform a ‘Jazz Flip’ where my big band would perform arrangements of Eraser Description’s music, and Eraser Description would perform my big band charts arranged for a synth-funk trio. I wrote five arrangements of their tunes, most of which were from their self-titled debut album. The gig ended up being a huge success and resulted in a super funky live album which was released by COMA.

After the success of the show, I decided to record a studio album of the five tunes. The album was recorded between Sep 2019 – Jan 2020. Just as we began recording this album, I received the grant to record As For Now, and subsequently this project went on the back-burner until As For Now was completed. Max Grynchuk Big Band Plays Eraser Description was released in May 2021.
